Lexmark Printer Cartridge

Though Lexmark printers have a number of redeeming qualities including affordability of many of their models, the brand is not exactly among the top ranked sellers today.  If you had to name three brands of printers, chances are that Lexmark wouldn’t make the cut.  It would most likely be bumped by Canon, HP and Epson.

One of the greatest features of the Lexmark brand is that many of their models can be found at and around $50.  However, one of its greatest weaknesses is that many of the models can be found at and around $50!  It is difficult to work out a quality reputation in the marketplace at such a low price, and it makes a consumer wonder why it’s such a bargain.  Additionally, often the replacement of a Lexmark printer cartridge set costs as much or more than the printer itself.

Lexmark printers are often the most costly to operate because of the difference between their printer prices and the prices of their printer cartridges.  A $50 printer is very economical until you have to replace the ink for the first time and find out that it is a $100 endeavor.  It really makes one wonder if it would not be better just to toss the printer in the garage sale pile and buy a new one.  For this reason, if you are going to own a Lexmark printer, you should research discount retailers, cartridge remanufacturers and ink cartridge refill kits.  Otherwise you will spend twice as much as the printer is worth replacing the ink.

Fortunately for the budget-conscious, Lexmark printer cartridges are surprisingly easy to refill.  Rather than spending $75 or $100 on brand new cartridges, you can spend $20 or $30 on a refill kit that will actually refill your cartridges more than once.  As long as you read the directions and know what you are doing, this method can help hedge some of the costs of owning a Lexmark.  It also just makes good sense with most printers.  Although not all of brands are easy to refill, when one is as simple as Lexmark makes it, the obvious choice should be to refill.

You should always take caution when shopping for discount printer supplies, including Lexmark printer cartridges and substitutes for them.  One positive is that Lexmark is not a company that puts a lot of focus on photo printing, so usually the quality of ink you purchase won’t have as big of an effect on the quality of your print jobs.  What you probably just heard is that “Lexmark is poor in quality, so why care what kind of ink you use?” but really what you should keep in mind is that Lexmark’s economical models, inks and ease reasonable substitute ink cartridges makes it less expensive to own and perfect for everyday use and document print jobs.
